Well, in case you didnt hear.. Instagram is selling you out. Luckily, I never fully embraced it b/c I have the crappy iphone 3Gs and it was just too damn slow for me...
I am enjoying the online firestorm though... like this tweet of the day:
"Dammit. My Instagram self-portraits were all sold and now I'm playing bass in the Viagra roadhouse band! #vivaviagra"
@ChrisRRegan
And of course the inevitable huffpost checklist for how to move on with our lives. I dunno, guess I just take pretty good pictures regardless b/c I never need those fancy lil effects to add to my shots. I think I missed my true calling..
Exhibit A) "The Inspirational Artsy Shot"
Exhibit B) "The Oh-So-Clever Statement Shot"
Exhibit C) "The Nature: It's All Around Me Shot"

2) Checking Them Twice
Another day, another round of "best of/year of" lists... including:
And yes, glad to see that this made the list:
Somehow this did NOT make the list.. even though it is clearly the most quirky/disturbing story not only of the year.. but perhaps of all time..
"living doll" beauty has become a trend. The picture, however, is from the new issue of V magazine,
which flew Lukyanova, known as "the human Barbie," to New York for the
shoot, proving her existence and giving us a glimpse into her bizarre
brain. At Shine we've profiled many doll-like ladies, from 19-year-old Anime queen Anastasiya Shpagina, to 15-year-old London YouTube sensation Venus Palermo, to England-native Sarah Burge, who currently holds the world record for spending over $500,000 on cosmetic surgery. Even so, Lukyanova's story stands out.
Looking
at the photograph of Valeria Lukyanova, left, you might wonder if this
Ukrainian internet star really exists outside of the strange land of
YouTube, where
Had to get at least one, shameless WBZ plug in there.. y'know, just for validation.
3. Throne-ing one back
From our Ommegang they din't correspondent...
'Game of Thrones' beer first photo
You may have seen the story yesterday (in the New York Times, no less) announcing that a custom-made Game of Thrones beer is on the way. Want to see what the bottle looks like?Below is a first look at Iron Throne, a blonde ale from Ommegang brewery that’s “crafted to directly tie into themes and nuances of the medieval-like fantasy realm of Westeros and the surrounding kingdoms.” In other words, you can not only taste Westeros in every sip, but even get a little hint of Braavos too.
Naturally the bottle is big and manly, 25 ounces, perfect for keeping a fire in your belly while guarding The Wall. And it’s corked — no fancy modern twist-offs or bottle openers needed here — so you can uncork it with your teeth and take a swig while leaving your sword
“It made us approach development in a completely new way and I think the first edition Iron Throne reveals that,” said Phil Leinhart, brewmaster at Ommegang. “With a Lannister currently on the throne, it made sense to do a delicate, but piercing Golden Blonde Ale with Noble hops. Iron Throne is certainly fair in color and soft in appearance, yet it still possesses a complexity and bite to be on guard for.”
Iron Throne goes on sale nationwide in March for the kingly retail price of $8.50 a bottle. Here’s your first look. G.O.T. beer?
And in other GOT news...
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the third season of Game Of Thrones will feature slightly longer episodes, which running times in the generous 56-57-minute range, rather than those paltry, unsatisfying 52-minute episodes you're used to.
Sure... 5-6 minutes doesn't seem like much (that's what she said) but when you are talking about a show as awesome as Thrones.. I'll take any extra I can get (that's what she later said to someone else)
4. That's just shitty
Just when you thought Lindsay Lohan coverage couldn't get any lower..
LiLo clogs toilet on ‘Scary Movie 5’ set: report
Lindsay Lohan’s career is literally down the drain. On top of her legal battles and financial woes, new reports allege that Lohan caused even more mayhem on the set of “Scary Movie 5,” including blocking every bathroom on the lot for nearly two days.
“Lindsay clogged the toilet in her own trailer while she was there,” a source told Wetpaint Entertainment. “And because the toilets in the other trailers ran on the same connected system, the others stopped working, too. No one could go to the bathroom.”
“Everything got so messy, it took a day and a half to clean up. Production fell behind schedule because of it,” the source added. “And let’s just put it this way, she didn’t win over any new fans among her co-stars or the crew.”
In short.
5. Let Them Hear Frank!
Considering just how big the FZ collection is, this is great news.I'll be cueing up a spotify playlist once the office clears out tonight... FZzzzzzzz! (follow the link for AV club's playlist to start you off if you'd like)
Major Music Subscription Services Finally Add Zappa Catalog
After Gail Zappa and the Zappa Family Trust struck a deal with the major music subscription services in August, over 50 of Frank Zappa’s albums have finally turned up on Rdio, Spotify and Rhapsody today. Now you stream all of FZ’s classic LPs such as Joe’s Garage, Apostrophe and The Grand Wazoo as well as a handful of live releases including the You Can’t Do That On Stage Anymore.
Ever since the Zappa Family Trust signed a pact to bring Frank’s music to the streaming services, there’s been questions as to whether FZ would’ve approved of such a deal. Well, considering the legendary performer proposed an idea similar to today’s subscription services back in 1982, we think he’d be all for it. The folks at Rdio has created “An Introduction To Frank Zappa” playlist…

6. Bounty-Gate 2.0
This never would have happened if Paul Crewe were on the team..
Michael Douglas' son suffers injuries in prison, reports say
Cameron Douglas, who is currently in prison in Pennsylvania after pleading guilty to charges of distributing crystal meth and possessing heroin, suffered a broken finger and leg after being targeted in a prison flag-football league, a source told the New York Post.
7. It's Baaaaaack
Yes, just like the bad guy in the horror movie.. the McRib has returned.. and it's coming to get you!
Here's a handy list of some things you may not have known about the "sandwich".. including some you probably wish you didn't know...
The McRib is a product of "restructured meat technology."
Rene Arend came up with the idea and design of the McRib, but it's a professor from the University of Nebraska named Richard Mandigo who developed the "restructured meat product" that the McRib is actually made of.
According to an article from Chicago magazine, which cites a 1995 article by Mandigo, "restructured meat product" contains a mixture of tripe, heart, and scalded stomach, which is then mixed with salt and water to extract proteins from the muscle. The proteins bind all the pork trimmings together so that it can be re-molded into any specific shape — in this case, a fake slab of ribs.
8. Feelin the Groove
Words cannot describe just how awesome this is.
Get that man some Fried Chicken!
9. Give Them A Hand
Once again.. speechless..
God bless the internet for bringing things like this into our daily lives.
10. Mmm Mmm Bitch
Nice interview with Samuel L Jackson on Vulture...
Some interesting notes:
-He was an usher at MLK Jr's funeral..
-He's going to star in the remake of OldBoy!
-Sadly, he did NOT touch on his days as a brewer/commercial star...
And on his "cameo" in the Public Enemy video:
While we’re on the topic of cameos, how did you end up in Public Enemy’s “911 Is a Joke” video back in 1990?
A friend was directing the video. She asked me if I would do it. I was like, “Well … really?” She was like, “Yeah, I’m going to be Flavor Flav’s mom. I want you to be his dad.” And I liked the song. I think I was shooting Do the Right Thing at the time. We went up to Harlem one night, and shot all night. We just sat around drinking, smoking weed, doing the video.
